Countesthorpe
Parish Council are working closely with Blaby District Council to
make the park more user-friendly. Visitors will have noticed that
the grass has been cut and the areas around the paths have been
cleared. A litter pick has been done by volunteers with a regular
collection of the rubbish soon to be arranged. The conditions of
the park due to excess rain have inhibited the work but as soon
as the ground firms up the ditch is to be freed of the rubbish that
over the years has piled up in it and the ponds cleared of unwanted
weeds. Drainage will also be done in places that regularly flood.
The eventual plan is to create proper paths through to Blaby and
linking up to the existing Z44 path, if funds can be obtained. Signage
will also follow as will seats in favourable positions. It’s
been obvious for a long time that the park needs drastic attention
after it was left in such a poor condition by the developer, so
it will take time to put right. For this to happen work will need
to be done for a long time to come. Some of this work will be performed
by volunteers who are being organised with Blaby District Council.
To help facilitate their work a metal mobile is to be installed
in the park to hold tools and machinery. A telephone number for
people who are interested enough to volunteer will be provided asap
so they can be properly trained.
